Providence: BMW 7 Series Goes Green
Providence: BMW 7 series, as the title says, has gone green and the vehicle's newfound greenness is even represented in its name – BMW ActiveHybrid 7. As is the point of hybrid vehicles, the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is more efficient, and therefore more environmental, than its BMW 7 Series peers, but this hybrid is not exactly like the hybrid models that the automobile industry is used to. Furthermore, the unique qualities of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 will likely appeal to true performance-oriented automobile buffs. That is, current patrons of the BMW 7 Series.
As most of the world knows, BMW is first and foremost a performance oriented automotive brand and the company was sure to not lose sight of this attribute despite their entrance into the hybrid realm of the auto world. Thus, where most car companies sacrifice power in order to deliver an even more efficient hybrid vehicle, BMW does the opposite. Tree-huggers may frown, but BMW clearly finds it worse to pretend to be something you're not.
Thus, the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is both more efficient and more powerful than its BMW 7 Series peers. Both vehicles utilize a 4.4-liter V8 twin turbo direct-injection engine, but the ActiveHybrid 7 adds an electric motor with a 120-volt lithium ion bather pack to the party. This technology means the vehicle cannot run on electric energy alone but is more fuel efficient thanks to its ability to shut the engine off when the vehicle comes to a full stop, such as at a stoplight. The electric engine also acts as a boost during acceleration meaning less fuel is consumed during periods when drivers are increasing speed. The result is an ActiveHybrid 7 vehicle that earns 17 miles-per-gallon on city streets and 26 on highways, compared to a 7 Series vehicle earning two to four miles per gallon less than these numbers.
The ActiveHybrid 7 is an expensive vehicle, even when compared to its 7 Series counterpart available at local Providence BMW 7 Series and Providence used BMW 7 Series dealerships. The price tag of the ActiveHybrid 7 is $102,300, compared to just $82,500 for the plain 7 Series. But, as stated before, this vehicle is specifically designed for those who desire power and performance from their automobile, at any and all costs. When judged side by side, the ActiveHybrid 7 is more powerful and performs better than the 7 Series. Not to mention, it's more environmental.
But in case those facts alone don't justify the price discrepancy for you, BMW has also made standard many features that the $82,500 base price of the 7 Series does not include. Some of these features = are not a rearview camera, an audio system upgrade featuring 16-speakers and a head-up display.
Lining up all the pros and cons, for residents of Providence driving a used 7 Series and looking to replace it with just as capable of a vehicle, the ActiveHybrid 7 comes highly recommended. If performance in a vehicle is something you appreciate and you can afford the 7 Series, the additional joy you will experience from driving the ActiveHybrid 7 is worth the extra $20k that it will remove from your abounding wallet.
